Last Night we held our 70th Anniversary Celebration Dinner.

Over 110 past players, Life Members and invited guests joined the current Club President Brighty and Chair Steady to cap off our 70th year. (When the planning for the event started we didn’t expect we’d still have a game left to play.)

We listen to fantastic speeches especially from the last remaining founder member Trevor Smith who did magnificently well at the tender age of 93. Along with Bill Thompson who recollected times through the 60s, the blueball singsongs & shenanigans. Hospitality to visiting teams as always been at the heart of our club and we carry this on to current match days, most will agree the pie and chips both pregame and post game are bloody good.

We listened to a letter from the absent John Brown which was read brilliantly by John Machin as part of his speech which rolled through the 70s to the 90s and the move from Peasey Hills to the Gannock.

Current 1st XV skipper Sam Triffitt closed the evening rolling through the last 24 years, talking about his pride as a young whippersnapper on the field at Twickenham in the early 2000s right through to current day achievements, speaking well of the influences people inc Stevo, Crebs, Johnsy amongst others have had driving Malton on and on.

Major emphasis was on the growth of junior and mini rugby from the dark times 40+ years ago where lack of playing numbers nearly curtailed us, but the vision back then by the committee to double down and invest in our junior & mini sides have held us in good stead. Many of whom have forged great careers started thier rugby journey on the grass at the Gannock.

Thank you all for a been part of a throughly enjoyable evening, all with a common goal at the heart of it.
