MALTON COLTS AT THE READYWith the 1st team’s season drawing to an early conclusion, Malton’s supporters switched their attention to the U17 colts whose season has been one of unparalleled success so far.

On Tuesday 4th April a large crowd was treated to as good a game of rugby as witnessed at the Gannock this season when the colts entertained All Saints School from the Queensland area of Australia. The game finished at 19-12 to the home side but not before they were given a thorough examination by their visitors, only drawing away in the closing stages. The following Tuesday I witnessed a training session on a foul, cold, wet evening with the U16’s invited to provide some opposition. Both sets of lads impressed with their attitude and when it could have been a question of not turning up in the first place or going in for an early shower they all to a man stuck it out with no back chat or messing about and completed an 80 minute session under the keen eye of their coach.

Under the guidance of coach Richard Jones and team manager Andrew Walker and forwards coach Paul Cornforth they have reached the final of the Yorkshire U17 colts cup to be played at Doncaster Knights stadium on Sunday 23rd April, kick off 2.30 pm.

In their regular season they have topped the Yorkshire u17 B division with the enviable record of Played 9, Won 9, points for 362, points against 24, and a league total of 52 points.Their route to the final started on 6/12/22 with a 49-0 victory at Sheffield Tigers. A quarter final visit to Old Otliensians  on 4/12/22 ended with a 29-0 win.The semi final at the Gannock on 29/1/23 saw them through to to the final with a 41-12 result against Sandal.

The following squad has been selected for Sunday’s final.

Max Bradshaw,  Alex Packer,  Digby Blenkin,  William Collier,  Ben Brambles,  Harry Dawkins, Jack Renshaw,  Jack Jones,  Rohan Simpson,  William Walker,  Muntasir Kabila,  Lucus Oxley,  Harry Alngohuro,  Aiden Moore,  Mathew Simpson,  Robert Knaggs,  Sam Crosswaite,  Henry Cornforth,  Tom Gray,  Oliver Owuor(c).The following have taken part in the cup run and in no small way have contributed to the success so far of this entire group of young men.Oliver Simpson,  Henry Wilson,  Callum Cass,  James Stone,  Harry Mortimer,  Ben Cressey.Of note ; Oliver Owuor,  Lucus Oxley, Alex Packer are part of the Yorkshire Academy.              Bill Collier,  Tom Gray,  and Henry Cornforth are members of the Yorkshire development squad .I am sure the whole club will join me in making travel arrangements and giving whole hearted support to these players as they represent MALTON and NORTON against Pontefract colts on Sunday at 2.30 pm.
