Scarborough 12 – Malton & Norton 19

Unofficial view of the game from our own Andy Goode.

Friday night lights proved successful for Malton for there first outing Post Covid.

Off the kick off, Malton started well trying to use the ball wide and making good ground doing so. This proved evident when Charlie Corner, who proved a handful all day, crashed over in the corner out wide for Malton’s first of a well thought call from the lineout, and well deserved it was. Conversion just drifting wide. 5-0

Following some pressure and Malton conceding penalties and letting Scarborough walk down the pitch with the use of their 10’s boot, it was Scarborough’s turn to go over the whitewash, with the conversion going over successfully. 5-7

With the night setting in and the referee keeping a close eye on Goodey , unfortunately Scarborough weren’t, as their own overthrow was well scooped up by the ten, who then danced through the line like a scene from Billy Elliot, who proceeded to go round the full back and dive under the posts, with oxygen shortly followed after. Conversion successful. 12 -7

With the game getting on and a great charge down by one of the Malton forwards, Bully was able to maintain his inner Fat Ronaldo who controlled the ball with his feet to the line, only for to be tackled without the ball within touching distance. A Penalty try was given and it was looking like Maltons night. 19-7

Scarborough had different ideas and as Malton dug deep in defence, too many phases proved dividend and the home team crossed in the corner, conversion unsuccessful. With the scores at 12 – 19, Scarborough were looking for that draw.

However, the Malton defence proved resilient and digging deep kept the home team out for a well thought win, played in good spirit by both. I’m sure Crocs and Triff will have plenty to chew on from the match, but still a good win for the pair for there first competitive match.

Roll on next Friday when Malton welcome Scarborough to the Gannock.

Cheers Bully for the report.

NOTE - Knocky's official report might be coming soon not sure if he had his scroll and quill to hand.
