First AWAY LEAGUE MATCH Captain's Report
On Sunday, M&N played away against Hornsea, who started strong, scoring the first try in the opening 10 minutes; followed shortly by a second (no conversions). M&N came back with a try from their hooker, Leah Barker; converted by Rebecca McClean. At this point, M&N lost their No. 10, Hannah Bennett, to a blood injury and both teams went down to 14 players for the reminder of the first half.
Our speedy inside center, Luce Dyer, cleared most of the pitch to get her first try, putting M&N ahead; with Rebecca's conversion increasing the lead. Hornsea countered our attack, almost making it over the try line twice but held up by great defence from M&N.
Fabia Tate (in her SECOND ever match for M&N), broke through with an unstoppable sprint to get her first try. M&N ended the first half on a high, with Rosie Weatherill making fantastic runs, carrying M&N forward many times, supported by Luce who grabbed a second try; converted by Rebecca. Just before the end of the first half, Vice Captain Rebecca forced her way over the line, increasing M&N's lead.
Hornsea started the second half with another quick try. M&N countered with a dominant scrum and Hannah Bennett, returning to play, scoring a try; hastily followed by a second try for Fabia. Hornsea ended on a solid effort, securing a hard fought for try in the last minute of play.
Final score: 20 - 36 to Malton & Norton
