After a series of discussions amongst the senior club coaches and players, Malton and Norton are pleased to announce the appointment of Jacob Stephenson as 1st XV captain for the 2025/26 season with Will Dunn as his vice captain.
The stated aim is that with renewed energy, enthusiasm, vision, and commitment, Malton will compete to finish top of level six (regional NE 2) and then become an established level five club in NE 1.
Jacob takes over the reins from regular no8 Sam Triffitt who has skippered the first team for 244 games and in that time has crossed the whitewash on 69 occasions, a strike rate many three quarters would be proud of. Sam is still available for selection and hopes to squeeze one more season out of his battered frame and at the same time develop the skills necessary to pass on his experience as a future coach.
The 2nd team skipper is Lewis Welch with Phil North as 3rd team captain. The ladies squad known as “The Marvels” will be skippered by Emily Midgley, with Lauren Simpson and Pippa Hutchinson as vice captains.
Lastly the club hope to relaunch after an absence of more than 20 years a 4th/veterans team to possibly play evening fixtures against like minded social and veterans teams.
The season opens on the 23/8th with a squad practice game at Guisborough Rufc 14.00hrs kick off.
Two weeks later on 6th September 15.00hrs , drought conditions permitting, the season proper commences at The Gannock when we entertain visitors Selby.
