Today at Pocklington, Will Dunn leads the team out as Captain from the second row as he celebrates his 100th appearance in the Red, White and Black.
Over the years, Will has stepped out of Emmsy’s shadow and formed a superb second-row partnership with Charlie Read. As our lineout leader, he’s brought increasing clarity and structure to that part of our game over the past couple of seasons. Taking on the vice-captaincy at the start of this season as understudy to Jacob, he is now beginning to instil his own values and standards throughout the squad.
Dunny’s first game came in the COVID-affected season, making his first-team debut on 12th October 2019 at Driffield in a 45–31 defeat. He scored his only try of that season four weeks later at Scarborough in the Yorkshire Shield victory. With COVID wiping out 20/21, Dunner bounced back the following year with another single try across twenty-one appearances.
The years since have followed a similar pattern:
-
3 tries in 17
-
2 in 20
-
2 in 18
…with 0 in 10 so far this season — though there’d be no better moment to break that duck than by bagging a winner at Pocklington this afternoon.
This season, Will has been kindly sponsored by BHE Self Storage.
Let’s go WD!
