What is it? ​

Kids First Contant Rugby, is a program in Rugby Union designed to introduce young players, typically under the age of 11, to the contact elements of the game in a safe and gradual manner. whilst fostering personal and social skills in a safe, inclusive environment. ​

The program emphasizes skill development, safety, and fun, ensuring that children learn the fundamentals of tackling, rucking, and other contact aspects in a controlled environment. It focuses on building confidence, teamwork, and respect for opponents, while also prioritizing player welfare by teaching proper techniques and minimizing the risk of injury. ​

The Kids First Contact approach is aligned with age-appropriate guidelines to help young players develop at their own pace.

What to expect? ​

A warm fun, safe and inclusive environment, allowing individual’s to enjoy the fundamentals of rugby whilst developing personal and social skills.

Confidence to tackle, use of shoulders not fingers

Players arms to fire past the tackle target.

In tackling drills encourge players to be allowed to be tackled.

Avoid.

Large group games as players will inevitable leave it to another player tackle.

Remember every journey is different and children develop and engrain understanding at different times.
