Malton show class in the eye’s of visiting Referee,
Please excuse me but I really would like to share an email we received early on Sunday morning. A timely reminder to all player’s young and old that respect is earned and values should be upheld first and foremost.
“Yesterday I had the pleasure of refereeing your second fifteen vs Scarborough, it was well contested and resulted in a healthy home victory. You’ll be aware of the current enhanced focus on the values of our game. We are asked to report on poor behaviour of players and spectators. I thought it important to recognise the converse - when players exemplify the values and behaviours that we seek to protect.
Before the game the Scarborough coach approached and told me that a front row replacement he intended to play was lacking in experience and asked me to be aware. The home scrum was already dominant when the young prop came on in the second half. I had a quiet word with the Malton props and I have to say that there response was everything that we should expect. At the ensuing scrums they contested but stopped short of imposing themselves to the extent that could easily discouraged and endangered the young lad. This showed a level of respect for the game and their opponents that, I felt, warrants recognition.
In a time where our attention is too easily drawn to those that transgress I believe it’s important to take a moment to appreciate those that ‘get’ exactly what we mean when we talk of the core values of our game. Please pass on my thanks. They did themselves, your club, and the game proud
Chris”
The second XV props Chris is referring to are the Gentlemen Jon Richards, Ed Gwilliam & Pete Hopkins. Please beer them this Christmas
Thank you men
