With not much rugby around and after a request at our AGM we thought we would spend a week highlighting our main committee and their roles with in the club…….
We are starting off with Ian Hepworth, head of women and girls rugby whom most will already know, Ian has two children that have been through the minis at the club and oversees all the women and girls activity at the club liaising with the age grade, rugby and exec committees.
Ian pushed the committee to relaunch the women’s and girls’ section about 7 years ago and since had valued support from a few coaches, until last season where he got superb support from 5 of our Marvels players, Andy Barker and Richard John to name a few. He also volunteers with the Yorkshire RFU and is a GMS trainer for the RFU so is a handy asset to be involved with our club.

Wanting to join our women or girls squads you can contact him here
Next we have a returning committee member Pete Hartley for those unfamiliar with Pete and his connections to the club we have a great little piece from him

“Hi, my career at Malton and Norton RUFC started back at the Pasture Lane ground where I was one of the first of Mary Griffith’s Minis back in the very early 1980s. At that stage there was only the minis, a junior section didn’t exist. There were fewer rules re participating at senior level and at 14 I was playing for the seniors (mainly 3rd and 4th XVs). At this stage we had up to 5 senior teams at various parts of the season. I received colt of the year award in 1992!
I went away to college and when I returned the club had moved to the Gannock! I began playing for the club again, mainly for the 2s but also as part of the 1st team squad. I was encouraged by John Machin and Trevor Smith that it would be good to get more involved with the club and in 1997 I became Treasurer for the first time, a position I held until 2006. In 2003 I was honoured to receive the Clubman of the Year Award.
I was involved in 3 memorable senior tours – Canada in ’98, Antwerp in ’99 (when Chris Creber and Phil Ryan made their debuts for the club) and Galway in 2000. I have many happy memories of my entire rugby career, not always for the great wins, but for the lifelong friendships and camaraderie that being involved with rugby can bring.
I have now re-joined the Committee as Treasurer and am excited by the enthusiasm that exists in the new committee and some of the ideas that have already been put forward to benefit the whole club. I am also excited with the potential that the club has to continue the development of players of all age groups with a pathway into senior rugby, and the continued expansion of the girls and ladies sections. Sadly Covid 19 spoiled the end of last season and brought a different aspect to life, and who knows how long before we can return to rugby as we know it. However we are still investing in the facilities so that once we get the green light we will be ready to hit the ground running. I look forward to working with you all.
